This city was established in 1724 and the founder was Bhavsinhji Gohil who ruled the city from 1703 to 1764. Bhavnagar is named after this ruler. Prior to merge into India in 1947 the city was a different princely state of Gujarat. 
 

Bhavnagar is located at good distance of 198 kms from the capital Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The Bhavnagar is listed in the major cities of Gujarat positioned on 5th place. However, it comes in 2nd position in Saurashtra district.
 

Bhavnagar is having historical values especially for Gujarat state. In early period the Gohil Rajput from Suryavanshi background was ruling the city, though he faced many problems in Marwar. Many changes occurred in the city at different intervals and many rulers came to city. Almost every King spends many years in Bhavnagar.

Takhteshwar Temple: the first place of Bhavnagar is Takhteshwar Shrine situated in the center area of Bhavnagar. This shrine is having highest peak that anybody can see from every corner of the city. 
 

Nilambag Palace: next spot is Mahal of Maharaja Maharaol Vijayrajsinhji Gohil which is the heritage spot of Bhavnagar. However, still the family of Maharaja is living in palace but some area is open for the voyagers to learn about the history of rulers of the city. 
 

Mangalsinhji Mahal ka Mahal: the palace of Mangalsinhji is the next tourist spot in Bhavnagar. This historical spot is again located in the center part of Bhavnagar. Traditional Kathiawari structural design of palace is best thing to watch.

Bhav Vilas Citadel: Bhavnagar is full of palaces and historical spots. Bhav Vilas is the next location available for voyagers. This palatial palace was previously used as the club-house for local royal families. Presently this palace is administered by Maharaj Kumar Shivbhadra Sinhji and his family. The wildlife collection in the palace and lake view from the top of Mahal is best part.

Seashore at Ghogha: Bhavnagar is close to seashore situated at Ghogha. The only distance of 22 kms allow travelers to take pleasure of Indian Sea as well. Few sea-side palaces are available in Bhavnagar which is again the best tourism spots. Some palaces are converted to hotel and guesthouse so travelers can stay and enjoy the local life of the city.
 

Victoria Park: the next spot is Victoria park of Bhavnagar spread in 500 acres area. The diverse vegetation and fauna are top features of park. Bird watchers must visit as they can view the dissimilar types of birds all time in the park. 
 

Darbar Gadh: the sitting area for local public was the part of administration of royal families before independence of India. This darbar is the seat of royal family of Bhavnagar. However, state bank of India has taken the place on rent, but some part is still open for the visitors.

Ganga Deri: also known as Ganga Jalia Talav is next monument of Bhavnagar which is a kind of replica of of Taj Mahal. The construction of Deri is done with white marble which was gifted by the early period Maharaja of Bhavnagar.

Gaurishankar Lake: also recognized as Bor Talav is another spot. The location is named after the king of 19th century Gaurishankar. The Lake was planned for the water storage of City, though now its just a picnic spot where travelers can spend some time. Sunset is favorite event of the lake as it gives amazing view to visitors. 
 

Gandhi Smriti: the big location of Bhavnagar is Gandhi Smriti which is a memorial having huge collection of India’s Nation Father Mahatma Gandhi. The books about and by Gandhiji are available in the library that populace can read.
 

Malnath Shiv Temple: this is the spot having waterfall Trambak which means tourist can enjoy two spots at one location. However, tourists have to travel for 15 to 20 kms to attain the target. This beautiful location is good for trekking as well.
 

Few more spots of Bhavnagar are Nava Bandar, Barton Library, Alang Ship Breaking Yard, Swaminarayan Mandir, Ghogha Beach, Oldest Mosque, Piram Bet, Khodiyar Temple, Pillgarden, Palitana and Velavadar.

By Train: properly linked Bhavnagar railway station is easy way to reach. Trains from Mumbai and many big cities are available for Bhavnagar. Almost every big city of India is having direct train for Bhavnagar so travelers will get the easy train to attain the spot.

By Air: the domestic airport Bhavnagar is having frequent flights from around the corner of nation. Mumbai is the major hub for direct flight to Bhavnagar. Kingfisher and many other airlines are having flights for Bhavnagar city.

By Road: state buses are accessible to Bhavnagar. Bus from Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara are available in large amount.
